Boris Ivanov was born on May 20, 1961, in Moscow, Russia.
In 1983 he graduated with honors from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Department of International Relations.
From 1983 to 1993 he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he changed several positions working on arms control and US - Russia relations.
From 1993 to 2000 he occupied the position of Vice President for oil and gas projects at Unibest Bank.
In 2000 Boris Ivanov moved to the Russian Aircraft Corporation MIG where he held position of the First Deputy Director General for Strategy.
In April 2007, he was appointed Director General of GPB Neftegaz Services B.V. and after the company restructured into a holding in July 2011 Boris Ivanov became Managing Director of GPB Global Resources B.V.
